Hello My Name Is...

Ms. Carla Steele

Ariel

My name is Carla Steele.  I have been teaching students who are hearing impaired or deaf for 30+ years and have spent all but 4 of those years teaching in the Darlington County School District.
I grew up in Pennsylvania and received my Bachelors Degree in Education of the Deaf from Indiana University of Pa.  After a couple of years, I attended East Tennessee State University to work on my Masters in Elementary Education but was short of achieving it.
I have taught in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Ohio and have done everything from preschool to high school.  I have also been an itinerant teacher, classroom teacher and did my student teaching at Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.
I love signing especially music.  I have had the opportunity to interpret at the college level, at concerts and at church.
My second love is history. I spent 2 summers taking the course Teaching American History in South Carolina. I have learned so much from those 2 summers that it has opened a whole new love of history and politics.
I currently live in Florence and have 5 precious cats.
I enjoy gardening, music, movies, signing and getting involved in civic duties.
